A little while ago I was asked by a friend if I could make a wedding cake topper - the sort that features 2 polymer clay figures to finish a cake off. She knew I'd been practicing a few things with polymer clay and a friend of hers had asked about getting some done for her upcoming wedding. I said I was willing to give it a go and got in touch with the Sarah, lovely bride to be.
This was a whole new challenge for me. Everything I make, I put my heart into and only want to send out the best for my customers but a wedding takes this to another level. Having been a bride I know how important it is that everything is right so I needed to do a good job with this!
I soon discovered that Sarah and her husband to be Darren were a lovely couple who wanted something a little different to the standard bride and groom in wedding attire - they wanted the figures to reflect them as individuals and as a couple. When Sarah explained to me what it was she was looking for I had a huge beaming smile, this was going to be fun!
Sarah is full of fun and has a fab sense of humour so asked for her figure to be sat down on the floor with a bottle of gin and Darren's was to have him holding holding his trusty snowboard.
I set to work as soon as I had the supplies and am quite pleased with the results. Sarah sounded happy with I'd done (it was a suprise for Darren) so that as ever was the most important thing! I suppose the moral of the story is although a challenge might seem scary at first, go with it and see where it leads you. I have since made a cake topper for another bride and groom and really enjoy doing them!
I'd like to say a big thank-you to Sarah and Darren for trusting me to do the job, I wish you a long and happy life togther, and to Jen for suggesting me in the first place!
